Here’s an idea I personally like because I find that I
pay so much closer attention to the sermon when I’m
taking notes. I feel that’s true for just about
everyone.
A
church we know prints their weekly order-of-service
bulletin with an extra panel for notes.
Try
not to print anything very important on the back of the
note panel so they can tear it off and save it. They
include the major points that will be brought up during
the sermon as a very simple outline, and leave room for
you to fill in the blanks. In the case of this church,
they even give out an inexpensive pen with each
bulletin, if you want one, which you can return as you
leave, leave in the pew, or take home. By giving out a
pen, it really encourages note taking, and cuts down on
all that movement to look for one. There are a lot of
people who never carry anything to write with, so it
solves that problem, too.
Another church we print for actually produces, for a
small donation, a notebook to keep sermon notes in. They
give out a pre-punched sheet which is printed with the
outline mentioned above. In this case it is a half-sheet
size, which I like because it fits well with the other
things like their Bible. This is harder to coordinate
and I honestly tend to like the other idea better simply
because it’s easier to do.
While this takes a little more work on the preacher’s
part, it is well worth the extra effort. People will
listen more attentively and better retain the lesson
they heard. |
