It's so important to make sure the visitors have a
special place to park...and that they can find it.
A lot a churches have a parking area near the main door
that's pretty obvious. Choose a few spaces proportionate
to the number of guests you usually have, think
optimistically and add a couple more. I've seen plenty
of churches with two guest spaces that average four or
five cars of guests a week. Missed opportunity!
If you've got a big lot, mark off a whole section for
your guests. Make it easy to get to a main entrance, and
keep your eye on it. If someone pulls into one of those
spots go out there and get them!
This is important. Don't assume everyone feels
comfortable going into a strange church and asking
directions. Make these parking spaces easy to find. For
big lots put directional signs at all the parking lot
entrances. Put special Parking signs on every visitor
spot and make them obvious. Don't worry about putting
the church name on those signs – they know where they
are. Put a greeting on them instead. "Parking for our
Guests" is a whole lot better than "Visitor Parking".
(See Call them Guests)
Don't use those little parking lot signs from WalMart.
Get a big sign on a decent pole. I'd look at 2 feet tall
minimum. If you have light poles, think about marking
the area with pole banners.
Remember, make it easy for them. Make them welcome. Keep
them from feeling intimidated, starting in the parking
