Rainy Days |
What are you doing for your members and guest when it
rains?
The opportunity is to make it easier for people to get
into church when the weather is bad. I know our
attendance goes down when it rains.
Here's something that will really be appreciated! Get a
dozen or two of those really big umbrellas, the kind
that three or four people can get under. When it rains,
have people at all the main entrances to go out to the
cars as they are being parked and walk the people in. If
the car's really full, two people go. This is a great
project for the youth, and you just get impromptu
volunteers when you need them. Of course, you want
someone to be responsible for getting it going when the
weather gets bad.
About the umbrellas. First of all, we can provide those
for you. Second, get really bright colored ones - yellow
or red or lime green. That way, after a couple of rainy
days people will recognize you when you walk out to the
cars. Also, the umbrellas will have less of a tendency
to disappear.
Umbrellas make a great fundraiser or gift, but get
different colored ones than those that belong to the
church. (If you order them at the same time it'll save
money.)
An alternate idea would be to use a designated drop-off,
especially it you have a big parking area. If it's
covered, you're OK, and when someone drops off their
family give them an umbrella to use as they walk from
their car. Ask them to just leave it at the door. If
your drop-off isn't dry, then get your volunteers to
walk the family in, and give the driver an umbrella to
use after they park. |
