Guests
(NOT Visitors) |
As a group we need to start thinking differently about
those people who bother to visit our church.
A visitor is someone who visits. National Parks have
visitors. The mall has visitors. Someone can visit you
that you don't really like - I have a couple of
relatives like that. The people who take the time to
come to our churches are not just visitors, they are our
GUESTS.
I know this is a subtle difference, but there is an
implied difference in the level of treatment these two
receive. A visitor can be anybody that happens to drop
in. A guest on the other hand is someone that you
specifically want to be there. They are invited, they
are welcome, and they are important. In many cases
someone has worked very hard to get them there.
We can let a visitor do their own thing. We can ignore
them. They can walk around lost in our church. They can
try to find the Children’s classes by themselves. A
guest, on the other hand, is someone we really take care
of.
As you work on these programs to have new people come to
your church remember that it's very important to treat
them like quests. Refer to them as guests, get guest
information, take them to the guest area, direct
them to guest parking.
Start using the term officially in all your references
and everyone else will begin to follow your lead.
Never forget the value of these people and treat them
accordingly. Your attitude will show, and if you have
the attitude that they are your guest they'll know it. |
